Acknowledging One's Own Fallibility
The truth of nonduality
asserted by Zen is not complicated, marvelous, or earth-shattering, much less
inexpressible, inconceivable, or esoteric – it is the most common and obvious
truth of human experience. Moreover, by recognizing the plain truth that actual experience is more reliable than
abstract speculations about
experience, we become equipped with a universally accessible means for
achieving and verifying an accurate understanding of even the most far-reaching
implications of human existence. Nevertheless, it does require one to sincerely
consider the possibility that Zen’s view is accurate – thus the possibility
that one’s present view is erroneous.
