Although "無" is usually translated into English as "no," it has a number of both denotations and connotations.

無 can be read to denote no, none, nothing without, none, not, lacking, non-existent, non-existence, non-being, impossible, lacking, and others (including one of the favorites of Cross & Nishijima "being without.") Which is enough to indicate that the number of meanings that 無 can connote are vast indeed.

Then, if we add the fact that "mu" is actually the Japanese version of the Chinese "wu", things can go even wider afield. Wu in Chinese not only denotes and connotes those listed above but a number of others---it can even be used a kind of "question mark" at the end of a sentence...

But then, I have never figured you for much of a stickler regarding the details of words and letters...

I admit though, that you did catch me being lazy here... I should have been more accurate. So, please sit down, it was I, not you that was at fault. I will clean up this mess.

Take care man,
(getting close to some sustained notes here in Anacortes-thanks!)

Gassho,
TedTed Biringerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00497538623775589400noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36986548.post-58221145204818175032008-05-30T17:29:00.000-07:002008-05-30T17:29:00.000-07:00Ted, Mu dose not translate into "No"It is more lik...Ted,
Mu dose not translate into "No"
It is more like "the Void" or nothingness.

sorry about the table, let me help you with that.
JordanSlowZenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10589294912054724123noreply@blogger.com
